Why this petition matters

Started by Voices for Public Transit

For decades, Congress has supported funding for American public transportation. In December 2015, by a wide bipartisan margin, the U.S. House and Senate passed the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act. This historic piece of legislation made a commitment to fund major transit projects through 2020.

But  the Administration is  now proposing to cut federal funding for American public transportation. Communities across the country have already made significant investments in key transit projects, and proposed cuts could stall or undermine these critical infrastructure improvements.

Public transportation generates economic benefits, attracts business development, supports job growth, relieves traffic congestion, and helps lift Americans out of poverty.

Proposed cuts in public transportation funding would jeopardize 800,000 jobs and $90 billion in economic output.

Please #Rally4Transit and join Voices for Public Transit’s petition to Congress, urging lawmakers to renew their historic commitment to American public transportation and reject proposed budget cuts.   We also need to remind Congress to include public transit as a part of any new infrastructure initiative.
